The "Right" Style of Clothing for Fairbanks
Fairbanks Formal is a true oxymoron. Style of clothing is pretty relaxed here in Fairbanks. Dress anywhere in Alaska ranges from fairly casual … to extremely casual. But if you really like to dress up, that is okay too.
One thing I love about Fairbanks is how non-judgmental people seem to be. You can go to dinner or dancing in a strapless velvet Barbie Doll dress or in the hiking or 4-wheeling clothes you’ve had on all day. Both are okay in most places. However, If you are here as part of a cruise, or if you plan to attend one of our formal dance or fund-raising events, you’ll want to re-think the day-old hiking clothes. By the way, it is okay to wear the same outfit several days in a row (we do have laundry facilities all over the state!) I do suggest that you bring dance shoes though. We have a couple of really nice dance floors and dancers everywhere like to keep their floors in good shape. This Tip reinforces Tip # below…. Don’t bring too much stuff!
